Online Book and Original Art Try to Convey Experience of Mental Illnesses
An online book of amazing art that aims to convey what it feels like to have a mental illness was published by Natalie Milgram, a masters of fine arts student at the Worchester Polytechnic Institute.
It uses digital and traditional media to create doodles, mixed media studies and final painting compositions to construct environments and characters inspired by mental illness. It is divided into chapters devoted to eating disorders, bipolar spectrum disorders and trauma-related illnesses.
“I enjoy creating fictional landscapes with unique inhabitants,” said Milgram, who created the book as a Major Qualifying Project at WPI. “mental illness and topics related to mental health have always fascinated me, in part due to personal experiences.
“Through Book of Worlds, I combined my interests in mental illness and world-building to create concept art expressing these imaginary landscapes inspired by modern research.”
