Sunshine from Darkness was founded by Lee and Bob Peterson. They became involved with NARSAD (National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression) after a family member was diagnosed with a severe mental illness. This ignited their passion for raising funds for mental health research.

Peterson’s move to Florida was the genesis of NARSAD Florida, and they swept into their passion for their cause. In 2008 they created their own non-profit organization titled “Sunshine from Darkness.” Sunshine from Darkness raised over 5 million dollars for mental health research.
In 2019, Jeffrey Peterson launched the Lee and Bob Peterson Foundation to carry on his parents’ legacy.
“My desire to further my parents’ legacy comes from my deep commitment and dedication to those who suffer from mental health and addiction disorders. We must stop the adverse outcomes and the economic cost of untreated mental illness.
Florida ranks last in the country in spending on treating mental health disorders. With this in mind and my passion for helping the community in which I now reside, our Inspiring Hope Dinner will help fund local charities that provide services to those in need of mental health and addiction treatment. Our scientific beneficiary will be the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (formerly NARSAD),” said Jeffrey Peterson.
